Bestselling Author Andrew Carroll’s Talk on the “Greatest War Letters Ever Written”
Start Time: 18:00
End Time: 19:00
Venue: Your Own Home

When you step outside your door, do you see thousands of leaves floating down into your yard, begging to be raked? If so, throw down that rake and join us for our next exciting virtual meeting. It will “leave” you breathless! Say “Hello to Fall” and join your fellow members, guests, and pets at a virtual Chapter Fall Throwdown featuring the bestselling author Andrew Carroll as he talks about his efforts to seek out and preserve the greatest war letters ever written—and shares some of the best letters he’s found.

Cost: Free

Date: 21st of October 2020 (Wednesday)

Time: 1800 – 1900 EST (this includes both Carroll’s talk and questions from the audience)

Speaker: Andrew Carroll is currently the director of the Center for American War Letters at Chapman University, and he is the editor of several New York Times bestsellers, including Behind the Lines and War Letters. He is also the editor of Operation Homecoming: Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Home Front in the Words of U.S. Troops and Their Families, which inspired the Emmy-winning documentary “Operation Homecoming.”

Topic: Since 1998, Carroll has been encouraging troops, veterans, and their families to search for and save war letters (and now emails) from every conflict in U.S. history. In 2013, Carroll donated his entire collection of approximately 100,000 war-related correspondences to Chapman University, and, together, they created the “Center for American War letters.” During his October 21st Zoom presentation, Carroll will talk about some of the more fascinating and incredible letters from the Center’s archives, and he will show the originals on screen, as he has the letters in his possession. (Even if you’re not a history buff, I guarantee you will be amazed by the letters Carroll has and the stories behind them.) And, if for whatever reason, you cannot join us on the 21st, please help spread the word about the Center’s mission to anyone you think might have war letters to donate—or can help get the word out on social media about this very important project. All of the information about the Center and its mission can be found at

Platform: Zoom -- for sign-in instructions please send an email to   and you will be sent an email with the Zoom meeting information.

Enjoy your favorite beverage and snacks in the comfort of your home.

P.S. Don’t forget the dog treats!
