APG COVID 19 Update April 16 2020

Below please find COVID-19 announcements and updates for Thursday, April 16. The APG and Adelphi HPCON levels remain at CHARLIE.

All APG guidance on masks/face coverings, physical distancing, and staying at home unless absolutely necessary remains in effect. You must follow the guidance to protect yourselves and protect others. Face coverings do not eliminate the need to practice physical distancing. Retirees and disabled veterans on APG who need a mask to continue to use essential services should call the Garrison Emergency Operations Center at 410-278-3183.

Governor Hogan has ordered that beginning Saturday, April 18, everyone must wear a face covering inside any retail establishment or when riding any form of public transportation in Maryland. If you are in the state but not on APG, you must follow the order. If you are on APG, face coverings are required in the Commissary, AAFES facilities, and Post Office.

The Commissary provides a vital service to the APG community. Therefore, the Garrison is implementing additional measures to ensure the safety of staff and patrons. Beyond mandatory face coverings, current protective measures at the Commissary include limiting the number of shoppers in the store at one time and physical distancing. Mandatory screening for all Commissary patrons prior to entry is scheduled to begin as early as Saturday, April 18. Screening questions are intended to identify individuals that are currently COVID-19 symptomatic or reasonably believe they were exposed to the virus. Individuals who provide a medical note stating that they are not infectious despite their symptoms will be allowed entry.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, patrons should stay home if they are sick. Please only visit the Commissary when you absolutely need to in order to limit potential exposure to others. In addition, do not visit grocery stores off-post in search of high-demand items and then visit the Commissary.

We are continuing to experience challenges with the VPN. The team is working diligently to get it back up and running efficiently as soon as possible.

As a result of COVID-19, an Exception to Policy (ETP) has been granted for Soldiers on a Military Education Level (MEL) Tier 2 hold for Tuition Assistance (TA). Current TA policy states that if a service member has used TA for a bachelor’s degree, he or she cannot use TA for a master’s degree until meeting MEL Tier 2 requirements, which means completing the Advanced Leader Course, Warrant Officer Advanced Course, or Captain’s Career Course. This ETP allows a deferment of this requirement for 90 days if the service member’s course was cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. You may request this ETP by creating a help desk case within GoArmyEd. For more information, contact the APG Army Education Center at or

There will be a digital APG SHARP Summit on Tuesday, May 5, from 9-10 a.m. More details to follow, but please save the date in your calendars.
